In 1959, the engineers at Puch achieved exactly what everyone always dreams of: a stroke of genius, the DS 50 – DS as in double seat with shell frame and 50 fan-cooled cubic centimeters. Although it was not so different from Lohner’s Sissy and other competitors, the Daisy, as it was affectionately called, quickly became an Austrian cultural asset. Even when time had long overtaken it, the insatiable market was fed with a wide variety of models. Carefully refined, the DS 50 remained in the program until 1981 (!) and a staggering 284,000 units of it were sold. From 1967 there was the DS 50-4, the last digit indicating the new four-speed foot shift. New, however, was also the appearance of the front and rear headlights.
Lovingly restored in the meantime, the scooter was most recently a sympathetic accessory to a respectable collection of exclusive vehicles – from which it was quite capable of stealing the show. The scooter has just passed the Pickerl inspection and would be happy to get asphalt under its wheels again soon.
